Castilla-La Mancha occupies a leading position within the Spanish food and agriculture industry, especially with regard to its wine, olive oil, vegetable, fresh meat (and meat products), cheese and dairy products.

This being the case, the region offers ideal conditions for the establishment of food industries and their ancillary industries, among them logistics and food packaging due to the region´s strategic geographical position. Castilla-La Mancha is the main region that borders on Madrid, the main consumer centre in the peninsula, and it also borders onto Andalucía and the east of the country. Our region produces II, III and IV category products that can be handled easily due to this proximity to the main markets and moreover, the region boasts raw materials of the highest quality.

In relation to R&D, it is important to mention the significant research work carried out by the Regional Insitute for Applied Sciences (Instituto Regional de Ciencias Aplicadas (IRICA)) and the Regional Development Institute (Instituto de Desarrollo Regional), as well as private initiatives such as those of the Beekeeping and Honey Production Research Centre (Centro de Investigación Avícola) and the Nutreco Food Research Centre (Centro de Investigación de Alimentos de Nutreco) both in the province of Toledo.
